Back to School Night tomorrow September
7th at 7pm, Holy Cross Hall
|
My
Dear Families and Friends of St. Francis Xavier School,
I hope
and trust this message finds you well! To our dear friends who were
directly impacted by the recent fire, we hope and pray you are safe and
sound and that you have not suffered any substantial property damage or
hardships! It was a very scary time over the long weekend. But thank God
we are okay!
Remember to keep in your prayers Mr. Patrick Flynn and Mr. Michael Castro
and their families. We can show our support in many ways, but remember to
keep a vigil in your hearts for these fine men of St. Francis Xavier. And
to those who might be suffering in privacy, our collective intentions
also include you!
Perhaps you are free to join the faculty and students, along with Fr.
Benny and Deacon Jim, at the annual Back-to-School Mass this Friday
September 8 at 11:45 A.M. We’ll be in the church asking the Holy Spirit
to guide is through another school year and to bring much needed healing
to those in need.
Meghan Trainor sings it’s all about the bass but at SFX it’s all about
SAFETY! Please be mindful on the parking lots! REMINDERS: use the entire
cone lane and U-turn at the bungalow for parking on the lower lot. DO NOT
CUT INTO THE PARKING STALLS EARLY! I observed a close call last week
while on afternoon safety patrol. Also, give the car in front of you
plenty of space. Sudden braking does happen and you don’t want to
rear-end anyone! Please know we DO NOT drop off students in the morning
in the upper lot! All morning drop off procedures take place on the lower
lot! NO CELL PHONES please! Take a break from the calls or texts while
driving on campus! Finally, please spread the word to loved ones and
others involved in drop-off and pick-up! Watch the tutorial video to
refresh your memory as needed! Many thanks in advance for your efforts!
DRESS CODE: We are noticing a few things that require your attention, my
dear parents. Hair color must be natural. Some of the children are
sporting the two-toned, left over summer looks that wowed at the beach!
But it’s time to get back to normal for school. Also, some haircuts are
too extreme. Using a number one clip around the sides and backs of the
head while leaving a healthy length of hair on top is considered
inappropriate for school. Please be sure to have your child’s hair cut
with an even-tapper for that loveable Catholic school look! Shoes are
mostly good, but remember we don’t allow high-tops and frown upon the
multi-colored shoe choice. Please review the Parent/Student Handbook
found on-line! The teachers and staff will begin enforcement in earnest
after this week. Please have your child’s dress code look in order.
The first STAR testing window closes Friday September 8. The teachers and
students have managed to schedule the tests within the timeframe,
including our TK, K and first grade students! This first benchmark is a
foundational measurement to establish scores for the students. The
ensuing three benchmark testing windows will allow us to determine how
well students are not only performing at a specific part of the year, but
also how well they are growing! We are excited to utilize this important
tool to guide instruction over the school year.
The faculty and staff look forward to greeting everyone at Back-to-School
Night Thursday September 7 beginning at 7:00 P.M. in Holy Cross Hall. The
TK and K teachers and aides will host their presentations in their
classrooms in the lower building. Grades one through five will host their
presentations in their rooms in the upper building. The junior high
teachers will host their presentations in Holy Cross Hall at the tables
near the stage after the parents are dismissed from the general meeting.
We will host two, 15-minute classroom presentations for the families.
Also, kindly know that Back-to-School Night is not a parent/teacher
conference night. Be aware of the teachers’ time to meet and greet
everyone. As we move through the month, the teachers are happy to meet
with you as needed by scheduling a conference. We won’t host the official
Parent/Teacher Conferences until January.
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and what now looks like a horrible event
in Irma, Student Council will be hosting some relief initiatives. The
Diocese of Houston is asking for donations. Student Council will announce
a special collection day to be of service to the people of God in the
Houston diocese. More news to follow!
God-willing, we will get on track for some smooth sailing for the time
ahead us. Let’s continue to support one another, be of service to those
in need and help our dear students grow in body, mind and spirit. May God
bless each one us and hold closely those of us most in need of wellness,
strength and guidance.
Sincerely,
Paul

School!
The
SFX PTO Board is in need of your help! We currently have two awesome
Executive Board positions open. We are in need of a Treasurer who will
over see the PTO finances and 2nd Vice President who will oversee all PTO
Fundraisers. This would be an awesome way to earn your 40 hours for the
year while making a big difference in our school. Come be apart of
helping make our school community a great place to be for the kids as
well as the parents.
