Currently, the PTO Board is in need of a Secretary who will be apart of our Executive Board. During the PTO General Meeting, which will be held on Thursday, November 16th at 7pm, we will hold an election for this position. We have one candidate, Melissa Procanik, who is hopeful in filling this role. Below is her bio for your review...
Melissa Procanik is an SFX Parish member, mother of three, and has all three children currently enrolled at St. Francis Xavier School, Max (6th grade), Madison (4th Grade) and Mason (Kindergarten).
Melissa has been actively involved in the SFX Community as the Courtesy PTO Committee Chair for the past school year. Prior to that she held the position of Co-Hospitality Chair, as well as Co-Chairing the Dinner Auction last year. She will again Co-Chair the Dinner Auction this year. She likes to help wherever needed and has served as Room Parent over the last several years.
She is happy to be considered to serve the SFX community as PTO Secretary. She looks forward to helping the PTO continue to support our amazing school.

A Big Thank You to everyone who attended, worked, donated, and just had fun at our Annual Night at The Races'... Nancy Willard puts on quite the party, thank you Nancy!!! Congratulations to all the winners, see you next year.

principals message
I hope this message finds you well. When did we get so close to Thanksgiving? And how did we get to the end of trimester number one? Well, we made it, and things continue to move forward rather quickly.
We are in the middle of the second benchmark window of STAR testing. The sessions are going well. We will hopefully have reports for your perusal by November 16, the date of the second PTO General Meeting in Holy Cross Hall. As I mentioned in previous weeks, we are looking for time stamps on the sessions that indicate the students made adequate use of the time window. Limited amounts of time addressing a particular test typically results in lower scores. I look forward to addressing the community on Thursday November 16 at 7:00 PM in Holy Cross Hall. Report cards will be distributed following the meeting. Don’t forget, too, that we host the Honors Assembly at 2:00 PM in Holy Cross Hall on November 16 to validate the students who have secured excellent grades in their core subjects!
The Mock Trial Team completed its first round on Monday November 6 defending the client, Casey Davidson, a political activist accused of murder! Oh my! While we don’t know how the team scored against the competition, it was delightful to witness that our defense team created sufficient reasonable doubt to earn a verdict of not guilty! We look forward to Monday November 13 when the prosecution team competes against another school’s defense team. Upon completion of round two, we will find out if both or either side of the case from SFX moves on to the third round. Congratulations to the students as they have worked very hard to compete!
The SFX Junior High Academic Decathlon Team is in full practice mode. The team meets at 7:00 AM two days a week and again on Sundays for two additional hours to study the array of subjects included for the March ‘18 Academic Decathlon competition. We wish the team well as they prepare throughout the months leading to Sunday March 4!
The Girls A Volleyball Team returns to St. Paul High School on Thursday November 9 for a 6:30 PM semi-final match against St. Catherine Laboure in the CYO Invitational Tournament. We wish the Lady Lancers the very best! Girls B is wrapping up their season by Wednesday November 15. The girls have enjoyed an excellent season of developmental volleyball! And Boys B Flag Football is wrapping up another successful season! It won’t be long until we begin basketball season! Go Lancers!
Thursday November 9 marks the annual Disaster Drill procedure. We practice the drill annually in the event of a major catastrophe and the need to dismiss students to families in an orderly fashion. Please read the message in the Lancer for protocols about the day. Mr. Magallon will work the driveway at the west end of school. Please be aware of his role in providing directions to you as you proceed to pick-up your children. Students enrolled in After-School Care will be brought back to the classrooms for pick-up by ASC staff. Remember, there is no parking on the lot for this drill practice.
As we celebrate another Veteran’s Day, let us be mindful of the brave men and women who have been of service to the country. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines!!! Keep the veterans in your prayers, especially those who are having a difficult time in the wake of recent service to the country. Of course we continue to watch out for one another in our parish and school community. God bless all of us as we enter the holiday season!

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER SCHOOL ANNUAL DISASTER DRILL
INFORMATION SHEET
On Thursday November 9, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. St. Francis Xavier School will hold the Annual Disaster Drill. The drill helps the school community prepare for a 72-hour evacuation and safe zone in the event of a major catastrophe. On this day the school community practices the pick-up routine in the event of such a major occurrence. (This drill will be rescheduled in case of rain!)
What follows are directions for parents to pick up the children on Disaster Drill Day. Please allow me to say up front, please be patient and calm as we go through the motions of the drill.
Please arrive to pick up your child/children between 2:00 and 2:45 P.M. At the close of this announcement we have suggested time windows for grade-level pick-up but we will release students on a first-come, first served basis.
Please DO NOT park on school grounds. The lots will be closed and only opened for emergency vehicles during an actual disaster. Gates will remain closed, and the west driveway will be manned by a staff member to ensure that you park on the neighborhood streets.
Please park on Scott Road or an adjacent street. Please be mindful to not block any resident’s driveway. Do not double park or park in any designated red zones.
Report to the west driveway where the staff member is located. Walk up the driveway and find a place in line. The line will lead to the upper parking lot where more staff will be on duty to operate the rolling gates. This is the sign-out area. While you will not sign-out your child during this drill, we will have you do so in the event of a real emergency.
Once you arrive at the rolling gates, your child/children will be summoned and released to you. Please DO NOT loiter but instead leave immediately. This will allow the drill to run quickly and smoothly. Your quick departure will also free up parking spaces in the neighborhood.
DISCLAIMER: In the event of an actual disaster, no child will be released until picked up by a parent or another designated adult.
For families who are absolutely unable to participate, we will hold the child/children throughout the drill and release them to After School Care at the end. You may pick-up your child/children in After School Care as usual.
If you are picking up additional children besides your own, please inform the staff members at the sign-out gate. We will call all the children in your party for release at that time.
During an actual disaster we are equipped to hold and care for the children up to 72 hours. All of the faculty and staff are certified in basic First-Aid and have received many hours of training over the years.
We are the beneficiaries of many concerned and caring administrators, teachers, staff and families that have gone before us to ensure that the school is prepared to help the children during a disaster. We are grateful to the past and present PTO Boards for their assistance in making disaster preparedness a priority at St. Francis Xavier School.
I thank you in advance for reading and absorbing all of the aforementioned details. I also thank you in advance for your cooperation. Foremost among all the details, remain calm, patient, accommodating and everything will run smoothly.
If you have any questions about the Disaster Readiness Drill scheduled for Thursday November 9th, please contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Paul Sullivan, Ed.D.
Principal, St. Francis Xavier School
Suggested Pick Up Times:
Grades TK, K & 1- 2:00 pm
Grades 2&3 2:15pm
Grades 4&5 2:30 pm
Grades 6-8 2:45pm

Last Saturday, Holy Cross Hall was filled with so many scary ghouls, princesses, warriors and cute characters at our SFX Halloween Party! The music filled the air as parents and kids all danced their hearts out! Trunk-Or-Treat participants decked out their cars in an awesome display, and trunk-or-treaters collected as many goodies as they could. Meanwhile, the Dodger game played in the background as many of the Dodger fans cheered on our LA team! What a fantastic night it was to kick-off our Holiday season!
Thank you so much to our Family Activities Chair, Jason Murtha, our Tech Guy, Chris Nappi, our Trunk-Or-Treat Chair, Christine Rodriguez, all of our volunteers and everyone who donated to this awesome event!
