principals message

Dear Families and Friends of St. Francis Xavier School,
I hope these soggy days are making your lawns greener! Everyone at school becomes a bit claustrophobic during rainy days because the students are confined to the classrooms at recess and lunch, but we are looking sunny for next week after another rainy Monday.
Thank you parents for taking the time to visit with your children’s teachers. The results of the conferences are always enlightening and informative. The students, teachers and I look forward to moving into the heart of the school year leading up to the Easter season.
Given the amount of illness we have observed going around the school it is important to remember to error on the side of caution when sending children to school after an illness. If your child has endured a fever or vomiting, please wait at least 24 hours after the fever has broken or vomiting has subsided to send your child back to school. While nobody likes to be sick and miss school, it is not optimal for the child or parents if another episode of illness occurs at school because the child returned too soon. We are observing these types of scenarios. Please adhere to the 24 hour rule after a fever or vomiting has subsided before sending your child back to school.
The basketball teams are trying to get their games played, but the weather isn’t optimal for outdoor games. While the Boys A Team plays on weekends at area high school gymnasiums, their games are played on time, but for the Boys and Girls B Teams, we are at the mercy of the weather. We thank you in advance for your patience and the day-to-day updates about the availability of play.
The Decathlon Team continues to ready itself for competition. The team will participate in two scrimmage events at both Louisville and St. Genevieve High Schools in late February! All roads lead to CA State Long Beach on Sunday March 5 for the main event!
Disneyland paperwork was sent home recently. Please make sure to fill out all of the forms per child who is eligible to attend Disneyland and submit the forms to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Our next liturgical celebration will take place during Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday February 1 at 2:00 P.M. God willing the weather will be good for an easy trip to and from the church!
God is indeed good! The rain has helped to offset the miserable deficits of our state’s reservoirs. While rain hampers play at school and in after-school sports, it is a much welcomed event after so many droughts! May God’s blessings be upon not only our state, but on each one of us at St. Francis Xavier. And may we be ever mindful to share our blessings with one another.
Sincerely,
Paul Sullivan, Ed.D.
Principal, St. Francis Xavier School
